In 1998, the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) was founded, receiving recognition from the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) and affiliation with Tribhuvan University (T.U.). With a mission to train distinguished medical professionals worldwide, it is regarded as a pioneering medical and dental school in Nepal. Almost 2,000 medical professionals, comprising MBBS, BDS, and postgraduate students, have graduated from UCMS and are currently in practice across the globe.
Situated in Bhairahawa, Rupandehi district, Lumbini Zone, the college is easily accessible from major Nepalese commercial and education centres. It is only 2 km from Sonauli, the town that marks the border between India and Nepal, and 15 km from Lumbini, the famous tourist destination that is home to Lord Buddha's birthplace.
Bachelor's and postgraduate programmes offered by UCMS include MBBS, BDS, B.Sc. Nursing, B.N., B.MIT, and B. Pharmacy. The college also launched MD/MS programmes in 16 specialisations and MDS programmes in 5 specialties since 2009–2010.
