Manipal Education & Medical Group (MEMG) owns and operates Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS), a medical school in Pokhara, Nepal. Accredited by the WHO Director of Medical Schools, it is associated with Kathmandu University in Dhulikhel, Nepal. Modern amenities are provided by the hospital and college with the goal of improving medical education and healthcare delivery. Manipal College of Medical Sciences and Manipal Teaching Hospital, located in the picturesque Pokhara, 200 km west of Kathmandu, have played a significant role in the medical and educational landscapes since its founding. With state-of-the-art facilities, MCOMS started providing its MBBS Degree programme in 1994, and the 700-bed Manipal Teaching Hospital (MTH) opened its doors in 1998. Together, these two institutions have made a substantial contribution to the region's healthcare and educational infrastructure.
The Manipal Education and Medical Group and the then-His Majesty's Government of Nepal signed a historic agreement on October 18, 1992, to establish a medical college. This was the beginning of the Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS), a Pokhara-based institution connected to Kathmandu University that began offering an MBBS programme in 1994. Notably, MCOMS was the first private organisation to open a medical college in Nepal. Furthermore, the 750-bed Manipal Teaching Hospital (MTH) in Pokhara started operations in 1998. Both establishments have state-of-the-art facilities for providing treatment and education.
Since MCOMS's founding, the Manipal Education & Medical Group has contributed a total of INR 40 billion, and it continues to do so in order to support the company's further expansion. With 7,000 hospital beds and more than 300,000 students served by its network of educational institutions, Manipal has established a solid reputation over the previous 50 years. This endeavour has created jobs locally and made a substantial contribution to Nepal's overall growth.
